Wondering why its always so hard for me to get back to racing mentally, for the second one I always make adjustments and get way better mental preparation
Does anyone have similar experience with openers?

Because you haven't raced in a while... Jakob ran 3:32.59 in his first race of the season. That's the way it works - you put in the work during base and then you get better and better as season goes on.
Yes, that's called being normal.

3:32 is not underperforming.
OP, what was your PR coming into the season, and what did you run? What did you expect to run?
Racing is a skill like any other skill. You will be rusty the first time out in a while. Workouts and weekly mileage get you physically ready, but it’s hard to substitute the actual mental side of racing in practice. Like you said, the next races you can make the mental adjustments. It’s hard to know what to adjust if you haven’t raced.
Races take a few attempts to get just right.
You also have no benchmark and as a result you can’t be confident in the pace at which you should be running.
