I've recently been training under a certain coach, local guy, picked up his card at the running store I frequent. Before I began training with him, I was a 17s 5k runner. After 4 months, I've dropped to 16:40s, so I'm obviously improving.
Here's the catch: the guy offered his services pro-bono, claimed he loved running, but couldn't compete, so he wanted to help others. Last weekend I picked up a pretty awesome prize at a small road-race (Spa and Dinner for Two certificates -- worth around $300).
My coach implied I should share the prize with him, instead of my girlfriend. I don't think I should, and I told him this. It was my achievement, he offered his services for free. We never signed a contract or anything, it was all verbal.
It seems pretty clear to me, but am I supposed to share the certificates? Am I a jerk if I don't? Ultimately I ran the race, so I should choose, right?
