Say we take Jake Wightman (2022) and Josh Kerr (2023) back in time and put them in the Doha final. Are they going to run down Cheruiyot in the homestretch? For the sake of fun, let's throw in Tokyo shape Jakob in there as well. What happens?

No they don’t.
Jakob follows him and outkicks him in the homestretch.

He was in great shape and may have still won, but I think the depth of the field has improved and they have also gotten used to championships being really fast, so I don't think he would have run away with it like he did. When he was in peak form, he was very good at kicking from the front, so he still would have had a good chance of winning.
Alright, to make it more fair, let's do 2020 Monaco shape Jakob instead. Is it still a blowout then?
People greatly underestimate the shape prime Cheruyiot was in.
In 2020 Monaco he went out in 52 and still won in 3:28, I’m not even sure El Guerrouj could have done that.
He was probably in 3:26.5 shape in a perfect race, maybe even a bit lower, he always had another gear even after leading everything.
Josh and Jake don’t follow him from the gun and even if they do they don’t outkick him at the end.
Jakob 2020 finishes a close second after following Tim all race but not finding another gear to kick past him in the final stretch.
Jakob 2021 is another story though, he isn’t in better 1500m shape than Tim but saves so much energy following him vs leading that he outkicks him.
At first I thought you were exaggerating a little but I went back and watched the race for the splits. My goodness. The splits were so fast the lap optimizer broke.
52.5, 58.65, 56.4, 40.6 gave 3:24.7 as the optimized time. I've said for a pretty long time that it is likely Tim was in high 3:27 shape when he won the world title in 2019 but he might have been able to run faster. Certainly 3:26.5 shape in 2020.

I agree with you, the pacers were 52.59 and he was not too far behind (probably about 52.8), I've always thought that Monaco run was worth at least 3:27.2 without the suicidal first lap, maybe even more impressive than Kiprop's 3:26.69 Monaco run.
