2 months ago, i had a bad "shin splint" flareup after a workout and woke up the next morning feeling like my leg was on fire.
i assumed it was a tibia stress fracture and did not see a doctor at first.
the sharp pains stopped within a week and were replaced by dull pain. 2 months later i am still having 2/10 dull pain pretty much all of the time, and it gets slightly worse if i have done a lot of walking or standing that day. i have tried some cross training but stopped since i have not been feeling improvement.
the action of walking or standing itself does not hurt at all, but it slowly contributes to the persistent ache.
i saw a doctor last week. tuning fork hurts the fracture spot but not terribly. you have to press really hard on the fracture spot to feel it. hop test doesn't hurt at all.
doctor said he doesn't expect that i should need crutches since walking is not directly painful but said it i can try them out and it might help the persistent pain. we have an MRI scheduled in a few weeks and he says he cant really tell me much until that happens.
wondering if anyone else has experienced similar. the fracture seems like its hardly there anymore but my leg just feels WEIRD all of the time and hasnt improved in a month. i feel like what i read, others at the tail end a stress fracture can do anything but run normally. i'm paranoid and scared to walk a lot now.
i'm gonna try using a single crutch to take some of the load off and see if the persistent pain goes away.
