What does it really matter what country he competes for? I find myself subconsciously rooting for Americans but when you think about it, it’s kinda weird. If a PV from Sweden is a genuinely nice guy, why should I not pull for him over an imaginary US vaulter who is a jerk.

The idea of competing on behalf of one country is antiquated. More and more people have dual or more citizenship, or have interests in multiple nations due to globalization. But then the Olympics or Worlds just becomes synonymous with the Diamond League meets.

Why not strip the American citizenship of all dual-citizenship athletes, then just let the inbreds left over represent your country.
