Right now or if he made it his event? His ceiling is immense, perhaps 43.20-43.40. Both his parents ran it, his frame is good for it and he maintains his speed exceptionally well. I think your range is good if he ran it with no specific prep.
he would run well, if he had the fitness and guts necessary for the 400m. He does better being a pure sprinter, in terms of two events and more prizemoney and sponsorship. I like 400m better, but i understand why the pure sprints are more glamourous and participated in.
He ran some high school 4x4's and has a 47ish PR. But he doesn't really have a history in the event.
I do have a hard time seeing him wanting to do the work that event takes, so I don't see that low 43 stuff at all. Maybe 44.5ish, maybe,
Bolt started out in the 400m but way too lazy for that event.
Who in their right mind would specialize in the 400 if they're a medal contender at 100/200? The shorter sprints are both easier on your body (so longer career) and more lucrative.
It's not being "lazy," it's making a rational decision. Would you choose to dig ditches for a living if you had a job offer from Google waiting for you?

I agree with you why run the 400 if you can star in the 100/200?
Bolt himself talked about beng too lazy to train at 400. Hell he actually hid from doing the workouts.
Stold this...
He didn't like the sound of 400m training, it involves longer runs, aerobic conditioning, and so on. So he made a deal with his coaches that he'd try to run 100m and if that didn't work out he'd run 400m. His coaches agreed because they didn't think he'd do well, but he did, and he stuck with the shorter sprints.

i think he would split sub 44 in a relay right now.
