I posted the first "Jakob goes home Devastated" thread yesterday and I wrote it before the race was over. Not "just in case he lost," but because I could see that he was beat LONG before the finish. He went to the front, couldn't get a gap, clearly heard the footsteps and everything about his face told me that he was a beaten man, that he was going to fold up like a cheap suit.
I saw a lot more fighting spirit behind him than in him. And that was with 300 to go.

Sounds more like post-hoc rationalization of a hunch than actual insight, tbh.
In the future, please post your predictions based on the facial expressions of runners during the races. If the predictions, over time, are reliably better than just regular predictions before the races start, I'm happy admit I was wrong. I can write you a poem or something as a prize, if so.

You've never watched a race, looked at the leader's face and thought, "He's toast"?

If not, are you new to the sport?
I have. And then afterwards, I suspect I remembered every time I was right, and forgot every time I was wrong.
My guess is also that it's easier to recognize the facial expression of "too tired" than that of "lacking fighting spirit", even though I'd be sceptical of pedictions based on both. (Nothwithstanding that such speculations make it more fun for us watching.)
Actually Vikings were explorers and raiders. Most of their fighting was cowardly attacks on defenseless peasants in unprotected coastal villages.
Norway has no farmland so that's how they ate.
This shows you know nothing about historical Vikings other than what you’ve seen in cartoons.
I know pretty much everything about pretty much everything.
What are you denying here, the part about Vikings exploring, or the cowardly raids on defenseless peasant villages? Well here is a source with scholarly references.
"The quintessential Viking strategy was to show up at a town or monastery suddenly and without warning, loot anything they could get their hands on in short order, and then vanish in their ships before the local military forces could be mustered against them.[14][15]"
While the Vikings were certainly more than just raiders and fighters, their war-related activities are justifiably central to our modern image of what the Vikings were, since it was their marvelous successes in battle and pir...

That’s fascinating. That definitely contradicts the stereotype I’ve been taught. I wonder how well the Vikings would fare against armed and trained defenders.
Ahahahahaha yes, as we saw again, he so lacks fighting spirit. Any "expert" looking at Jacobs facial expressions during the race must have seen that he would loose the 5000.
It looked to me that he resigned himself to defeat early in the final straight once Kerr edged past him.
I thought Vikings were supposed to be warriors and take it to the end.
That is all.
Watch the 5k and then ask yourself the question again. Even if you dislike the guy, that’s an effort that deserves a tip of the hat. The dude dug deep.
I'm sorry to everyone for bringing this one up on the boards again, and I'll try to resist the temptation to do so in the future, no matter how much it would fit.
But after today's finish, I think the first two posters in this tread deserve to be hailed for their amazing insight.
