RIP US distance running 1896-2023

you clearly haven't been around in in 90's and early 2000's .

The US has always been a sprint country with a few distance medals thrown in.

I disagree, it's tough out there now. 2 guys in the final and then top 7, that is not a horrific day. I guess most saw Nuguse doing better,,I thought top 3 was a possibility, but that top 5 in that field, in a very very fast non set up race was okay.7th was Hocker at 3:30.70? Not sure he could run better than that at all, a nice PR in a very very deep field.

The good old days when you could win the American maraton trials in 2.15.

As others have alluded to, the US went a good 15 years where you only had one guy (Bob Kennedy) that could get anywhere near a distance final.

There have been more US distance medals in the past 10-20 years than the previous 100 years.

Its a tough competing landscape. Perhaps tougher than ever. The USA is close. I wish them the very best along with with massive dedication, smart training, and strategic racing luck to medal at a Worlds and Olympics.

Don't forget Katelyn Tuohy. She might be on the podium next year in Paris.
