So I'm watching these guys skate 5,000 meters in less than half the time it takes Bekele on his best day, and I say to my girlfriend, "That's really friggin' fast, 29-30 seconds a quarter." She tells me, well, horses can run 30 miles an hour, for a while at least, if not six-plus minutes. So I start thinking: How fast could a horse on speed skates go? I'm guessing like 75 MPH for 5,000 and under. It would suck to be a jockey thrown from a horse going that fast, especially onto ice. They'd need well-padded boards, that's for sure.
I'm thinking this will be an exhibition event by 2014 and a full-fledged medal event by 2018.
