I’m assisting and the head coach is having middle schoolers run in 90+ heat, humidity 50% at 2-3 in the afternoon. Located in TX/OK area. Most kids are first year runners. A couple are the exception and they are well trained, but none of these kids workout in the heat. The experienced ones have done morning runs in the summer. I don’t really agree with running these workouts in the heat. I have expressed my concern, but the answer was “they need to acclimate.” Even the experienced runners are suffering with their runs and paces. I don’t know what else to do. The AD is on the head coach’s side. Am I in the wrong with my concerns? Meets occur in the morning so there is not necessarily a need to “acclimate” in my opinion. Any words of wisdom?
