Agree with you on the withdrawls. With the exception of Eilish and Koko, all of those names were legit gold medal threats or favorites, and it’s a bummer.

That said, for the list that did not qualify, a lot of these names are marathoners, so they wouldn’t be competing anyways as they all have fall majors to train for. The Americans on the track (fisher, Schweizer, teare, frierichs) is definitely a disappointment.

Every championship is missing a few great athletes who are out with injuries or pregnancies or what have you. Kersee’s athletes might push this year over the norm.

Many of your “Did not qualify” list are marathoners; the world championships marathon has never been stacked with all the top marathoners. I actually think the women’s field is quite strong for a WC marathon.

Jager, Frerichs, Bosse and Centro are just aging—Haile Gebrselassie didn’t qualify either. Bosse ran his PB 9 years ago and hasn’t raced once this year.

If you’re tuning in to the World Championships thinking “Man, this would be much better if Richard Ringer was running,” I don’t know what to tell you.

I'm not saying he was going to win but Ringer was still last year's European Champs Gold Medallist.

yes as usual the letsrun bias confuses 'big' with 'big in america' which are two completely different things.

I am German and am super disappointed by the amount of athletes qualifying and of these there is a bunch who is not competing either due to other events or mostly injuries.

sounds like you have a lot to look forward during fall marathon season. But the worlds marathon has always been secondary to Chicago/Berlin/New York
