Please critique the following workout for a low-mileage 400m masters runner moving up to the 800m with a goal race in four months.
2-3 sets of: 300 (2 min recovery) 300 (2 min) 200 [5-8 minutes between sets]
Pace is 800m goal race pace. I've penciled this into my training schedule, but I'm undecided. Is this a good 800m workout for a senior masters runner? If not, what would you change?
Additional info: Injured a lot with no racing from 2020 to 2023. January to July, I trained solely for the 400m with only 5-9 mpw. Since late July, I've changed to 800m-specific interval sessions and increased mileage to 20mpw.
Current fitness level: 400m in 1:11... 600m in 2:15 at end of a workout... 800m best guess is 3:20 right now. My goal is 2:56/800m in December.
