A bit of background information:
I am a 14 year old runner with PR's of 4:53 in the mile (4:28 1500m converted according to VDOT) and 17:46 in the 5k. I have been doing longer single threshold sessions using a lactate meter for the past couple months now, and have seen good progress in fitness. I am thinking that next summer, I will be able to start double threshold, but I am not so sure and am wondering if there are some information about young athletes and double threshold, as people such as marius bakken haven't seemed to cover it.
If your wondering: A typical week for me looks like this:
Monday: Easy 12 km
Tuesday: 8 x 5 min @ >2.0 mMol
Wednesday: Easy 14 km
Thursday: 25 x 400m @ >4.0 mMol OR 10 x 1000m @ >4.0 mMol
Friday: Easy 4 km
Saturday: Easy 12 km
Sunday: 16 km long run
Total Milage is around 84 km per week (52 miles per week). As you can see my current threshold sessions are longer than the ones people like Jakob Ingebrigtsen does but I only am doing one session a day. Is it reasonable to think that next year I could begin to do the standard threshold system, something like this?
Monday: AM 10 km + PM 10 km
Tuesday: 5 x 6 min @ >2.0 mMol, 20 x 400m @ >4.0 mMol
Wednesday: AM 10 km + PM 10 KM
Thursday: 5 x 6 min @ >2.0 mMol, 10 x 1000m @ 4.0 mMol
Friday: 10 km
Saturday: AM 10 km + PM 20 x 200m Hill Sprint @ <6.0 mMol
Sunday: 20 km long run
(Total volume 140km, but I dont think I will do this exact model. I will probably do something slightly closer to 120km)
For more context I am racing only this cross country season and probably nothing else. I think this would give me lots of time to pick up the milage to at least 100-120 km by next year? Thanks for the help.
