What’s cool to see to is the diversity of countries that could medal as well. So excited for this one!
yep, while the goose is a strong chance for a medal, there are a lot of runners in the mix for at least the minor medals.
Because of the nature of rounds, the final won’t be deeper than some DLs. Only 12 guys get through, and more than likely multiple guys with medal potential will not slip through the rounds.
Last year, for instance, Gourley, Hoare, and Tefera did not make the final.

The OP mentioned 3:30, so let’s use that as a standard of excellence and apply it to other running events. A 3:30 is worth 1250 points on the World Athletics scoring tables. So far this year, an astounding 11 athletes have run under 3:30 this year. Here’s how many athletes have a 1250 score or better in all the track events:

The apparent depth in the 1500m compared to the other distance events is probably somewhat due to how often it can be raced. I think that's one thing that has been super exciting this year: Everyone good seems to be showing up week in week out, racing each other, & no stars have avoided other stars (we've already had Jakob vs. Katir vs. Tim vs. Goose!).
Kinda of on a side note, it's crazy how looking at this list no woman has scored over 1250 points in the 800m, meaning that Keely's 1:55.77 isn't better than the 1250 barrier. And no Men's 10000m either over the cutoff. Shows how special a 3:30 really is for the 1500m, and how normalized it has become in 2023 (or it shows that maybe the points system needs tweaking, ha).

I agree with you on the 1500 race frequency and Keely’s score for her 800. I did a double take when I saw her time is only worth 1239 points. I would think a 1:56 would be worth 1250 points, but what do I know.
My other takeaway from looking at the tallies is what a supreme achievement it would be if Jakob can pull off the 1500-5,000 double against such stacked fields.
The women’s 800m is definitely weak right now but the points are also definitely a bit off, probably skewed by Soviet dopers and DSD athletes. 1:55 for women should probably be worth 3:30 or better for men though.
