No, they're giving YOU a hard time for glazing a 13th placer for running a couple meters longer than the winners..
Guess what? You run less meters when you are good enough to race in the front. Hocker races like a high schooler, sitting back and expecting to outkick everyone.
Isn’t the idea that he ran near a PR despite running 10+ extra meters, and being behind in training?
So when the top three run 10m longer or more you're just going to ignore that? Half the field ran extra distance. It's time for you to stop pretending to be a "thoughts leader"
You're acting like he ran 3:36 or something; 3:32 is plenty solid for where he is in his progression at the moment. Give the guy a little time to sharpen up at least; good lord.
I'll give the 10 people who also ran extra meters in front of him time to sharpen too.
Turns out that santa isn't real. The rise of Cole Hocker was fun while it lasted.
Don't get it. Cole was a little over 1 1/2 seconds behind your hero Nuguse. Who is 1 1/2 seconds-2 seconds behind Jakob. If it's over for Cole then it's over for Nuguse
Hocker will never catch up, he gave up valuable NCAA experience learning how to race. He is completely outclassed in international fields and his tactics are absolute dog water and haven't improved in the slightest since turning pro.

None of that “valuable NCAA experience” would have taught him how to race in a field full of 3:29-3:32 guys. Of course, he needs to stay healthy long enough to get some reps of that, and hopefully he will. London was his first DL 1500. Plenty of international studs gain experience the same way, by running in DL races.

NCAA experience isn't all it's cracked up to be. The racing is so different at the pro level both in terms of absolute times and in how aggressive it is in the pack. NCAA racing is a lot cleaner, fewer elbows, not as much shoving. It's the same in US domestic races, even good quality events like Millrose.
Just look at Jakob, Katir, Wightman, Cheruiyot. They've all been schooled on the circuit. Nuguse has done the right thing, getting out there and racing. Hocker and Teare spent their first season as pros holed up in Eugene running TTs. Total waste of a year of their careers

Exactly. Someone's never seen an NCAA dual meet. He'd be like poor Prefontaine, win everything from the front, then go get humbled in elite races.
It’s so funny because the losers on instagram were using Hocker to shade Matthew Centrowitz, but at least Matthew can race. Matt had a bronze in the world championships at the age of 21 and a silver 2 years later. Hocker is struggling to stay healthy and free from burnout keeping up with the big dogs. Stay humble my friends. Hopefully young people learn to respect those that helped pave the way before them.

I love reading stuff like this. Now he is in the WC final.
