My son is in his senior year of High School CC and he is looking to add a little
more weekly mileage to his workouts. His coach is fine with it but did
not give him a lot of guidance outside of saying he wanted it to be easy
mileage. They break up their training into three week blocks so starting
this week and going for the next three weeks their schedule is below.
Mon – 8 Miles Easy + Strides
Tue – 3 Mile Tempo
Wed – 6 Miles Easy + Strides
Thur – 5 Mile Tempo
Fri – 5 Miles Easy + Strides
Sat – 9 Miles
Sun – Rest or biking
My question is where would the best place be to add some volume if they are going
to leave Sunday as a rest day? My first thought was to add a couple easy
miles on Tuesday the first week, and then add a mile or two to Friday the next
week, and then add a mile to the longer Sat run the next week. Just
wondering if that makes sense. I am not sure if adding some easy mileage
after the Tue Tempo workout makes sense. Thanks for any help. I am
trying to add the volume slowly to avoid any injuries. The high school
program at his school has never been a big mileage program.
