I'm not hating on him and absolutely wish him all the best, but why do so many people feel like they have to share details of their private life on the internet for all to see? What's extra odd about this is he's sharing something but not really sharing anything.
Agree, the fishing for sympathy aspect has it looking like vulnerable narcissism. Share fully or don't as you wish, but the superficial despair and quoting and tagging Jocko Willink don't not appear performative.
Heard about this thread on the Letsrun podcast so had to come look it up along with the accompanying Instagram post. Really strange - either don't say anything at all or tell people exactly what happened. Writing a cryptic novel on Instagram just opens you up for speculation. And looking through his Instagram this is not his first long cryptic post in this fashion.
It seems pretty clear that his wife passed away by some means. He wrote in the instagram post:
"I was alive, my daughter was alive & that was about it. But, I have to provide for her myself now."
This speculation probably isn't good though and I hope he isn't reading this thread.
Who "was" his wife and wouldn't there have been an obituary? Not a single person in the Seattle scene posted on such news months ago? Although it would be a private matter, it would still be public knowledge.

I hope no Seattle track fans are stalking the obituaries every day waiting for familiar names to pop up...

No, what I'm saying is that there are plenty of people that know him or would know of him and his wife's name. I don't and won't look it up. But someone could easily look for the obit. You're right about stalking though. Who follows and posts his Instagram here, but doesn't know him personally enough to just ask him what's happening.
