The 1500s should be great. I've travelled into time and already watched the men's race. Spoiler alert. Here is our recap:
The magical 2023 season of Yared Nuguse kept on rolling tonight in Eugene as Nuguse won the men's 1500 at the 2023 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships in a US championship record of 3:34.02, eclipsing the 3:34.08 that future Olympic champion Matthew Centrowitz ran in 2016. Nuguse, who set the American record of 3:29.02 earlier this year in Oslo, got the win in a performance that likely would have made Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen proud as he led virtually from start to finish. Nuguse took the lead just prior to the 300 meters and ripped of splits of 59.2, 57.5, 57.3 and 40.0. 2021 Olympic Trials champion Cole Hocker actually had the fastest last 300 of the night 39.8 to move from fifth to second in 3:34.75 with 20-year old Hobbs Kessler third in 3:34.92.
2021 NCAA champ Joe Waskom and Kessler tried to follow Nuguse the closest but Waskom faded to 5th.
Live reaction show at 11 pm ET where we'll break down all of the action which includes the 1500 and steeple finals.
