Nah. Her legs were coming out from under her as early as 80m to go. She regrouped, but felt herself being swallowed up. In her desperate attempt to get to the line, the track monster grabbed her foot and dragged her down.
* Pole vaulter, having a bad mental health day, okay, be careful.
* Diver, swim & dive, bad mental health day, need to be careful.
* Combat sport athlete, their brain has to be in-tune with their body.
I am sure there are many other examples, American football players, hockey players, race car drivers, steeplechasers etc.
Shouldn't 800m athletes line up and figure it out?
While maybe a bit harsh with the dangerous sport comparisons, I’d have to agree with your statement. I don’t know all the fact behind her dns, but if it’s truly mental it seems like it’d have to be a pretty big deal to not at least line up. Hope she recovers and overcomes. Too good a talent.
Whittaker bumped into someone else first. And then, because she was tired, lost her balance and fell.
I don't think the bumping was anyone's fault. That's just the way things go sometimes.

Watch it again. Sage Klecker made a pretty hard right from lane 1 and hip/shoulder checked Whittaker. Not worthy of a DQ, but not like she tripped over her own feet.
hope she's okay. I think anybody who has truly competed as a runner understands the horrible feeling that can come with the anticipation of an upcoming race, even if only 1% of what she is going through. I have had a runner or two not come back to the team from one year to the next simply because they said they hated the feeling they had leading up to a race. Some people's solution to this is to run at only a fraction of their true ability.
All in all pretty disappointing for Willis, Whittaker and Gorriaran. Instead we have Lipsey and Rogers in the final. Feels like they've been here forever.
