Well not really but it's time this guy came into under a little spotlight no?
The Olympic and World champion (and 1.42.05 performer - that's 6AT), can't seem to break 1.47 this year having run 1.48.42, 1.47.71 and 1.48.96 in 3 Diamond League races. Clearly those aren't even good college times anymore and a little odd for a guy who won the world title and the DL title less than 12 months ago.
Maybe one of these performances as the overused cliche "season opener" would be somewhat understandable, but this guy is getting pasted out there. I think you would be hard pressed to find a reigning world champion that had 3 performances like this back to back to back in history - certainly in season after a world title and a low 1.43 clocking.
So it's 100% worth questioning what's happening. He shares (shared?) the same coach as Michael Saruni who of course was suspended in August of 2022 for doping. Kenya is still a hotbed of doping in MD/LD events - the article translated by Ghost1 in the thread above pointed to 63 doping violations in May ALONE, which validates that position and is in no way racially biased (because it's a fact, not a bias).
Korir, who always seems to be fighting extremely hard to overcome fatigue and in the past doing so with extraordinary success, just doesn't seem to be able to do this anymore. Is it just coincidence that since his buddy Saruni got popped and Kenya Athletics went under intense scrutiny for a culture of rampant doping, he has instantaneously become irrelevant? Could be. Is he hurt and just running to collect appearance fees? Maybe. Or is the real answer the one that seems most likely here. Open for discussion.
