If you’re not sure, just eat a large bowl of baked beans the night before and save up the gas as a turbo boost for the on’s. When you finally spring an oil leak you’re done.
Focus on effort, but start slower on the first 2 reps than you think would be necessary. Last 4 will be your true working reps. By the 3rd rep your breathing should be labored, your legs should have a little burn in them but you should still feel strong. By the 5th and 6th you should feel like your hanging on, but could go faster if needed with energy in reserve. I wouldn't cook this workout too hard such that it detracts from your overall mileage, but it should definitely be harder than your easy runs.
Yes, this is the answer… a fartlek should not be structured… run fast for a little bit then run slow for a little bit then run fast to the next tree or house or whatever then jog and look around at the birds then run fast then run easy… no structure just run baby!
6x2 min on/1:30 off. what pace should she ons be? 5k pace? faster? slower?
That's not a Fartlek. It's an interval workout. 'Fart' in Swedish means 'speed' and 'lek' means 'play'. Then you get Fartlek= speedplay. Original Fartlek is totally without structure. You might run fast to a telephone pole or a tree and then jog a little and then make a short burst again . A funny way to train when you sometimes get tired of structured intervals.
