I'm helping start a new XC program at a small private school, and I was needing advice to determine how much time or miles an athlete age 12-14 should should start with. I've read lots of books such as Jack Daniels' Running Formula, but it never states how much distance or time/age an athlete should begin with. The athletes I will help with are not new to running and sports in general. They are not overweight or have health issues. But, I feel like an athlete who is 18, would start differently than an athlete who is 12. Any help? Jack Daniels' book seems to maybe be referring to kids who are in high school or college. I could be way wrong.
