japan's womens 5k record holder beat olympic marathon champ and 219 marathoner noguchi 107'26 to 107'43, fukushi was born in 1982 and noguchi in 1978 so japan's women marathoners already great should be getting better.

Wow. Is that the fastest half marathon debut ever?
Wow, I'd better get on with what's going on in my home country better! Zatopek did a great job covering Beppu marathon as well.
I don't know if this was Fukushi's first half but she's been around for quite a long time. She's got a running style that looks well-suited for marathon so it would be interesting when she moves up.
Supposedly her 15k mark of 46:55 was the world best but I should say any more after Noguchi's incidence with Runner's World. I have no idea what kind of "timing" procedure they've followed. I'm sure there have been others (Paula?) who's passed the 15k mark faster but then again, I don't have any idea what kind of timing procedure they did either... Quite complicated.
Congrats to Fukushi (who often wears poby tail on the top of her head and known with the biggest smile you'll ever see).
Nobby, where does the Wacoal team train? In Nishikyogoku? 2 years ago in Kunming I met one of the Wacoal runners, Miho Notagashira. Such a tall nice girl!
I will be in Kyoto from March 2 to 6, for the Biwa-ko Marathon.

Jason:
They are located in Kyoto so they should be training at Nichi-kyogoku stadium. I met this steeplechase from Kyoto area. She might know people from Wacol team.
Good luck at Lake Biwa!
Yup; it was Fukushi's first ever half marathon. Apparently, however, her coach was running with her in the beginning and I don't know how the rule goes in regards to "pacing" now... She now holds the national records for 3000 and 5000 (Shibui holds the NR for 10) as well. I guess she and her coach was NOT thinking about marathon but now they might change their mind...???
