A double is better than a single 12 when the double is 10-12 in the AM and the 4-6 in the PM. And that’s only better when you’ve maximized returns on your 70-80 mpw in singles.
After a workout or long run day and you still want to get in some mileage a 8-4 or 6-6 is definitely easier. Sure 12 might be “better” but it’s harder to recover from
