Both Laros and Myers have run awesome times at young ages. Laros is more than a year older, so here’s how his best times last year compare to Myers’ bests as of today:
800: Laros 1:50.46, Myers 1:50.82
1500: Laros 3:39.46, Myers 3:36.10
3000: Laros 7:48.25, Myers 7:52.06
Who will ultimately have the better career?
I have no idea, but Laros ran 1:46.3h, which was his best mark. For fairness, we also need to give Myers the outdoor season really. But then you have to consider that Laros is the safer pick because he's already had a major breakthrough from his age 17 season to his age 18 season. That is not a given at all.
Laros as of now because he is closer to world class already. Injuries can come up and hinder progression for multiple years. just look at max burgin who would probably be a 1.42 runner by now if it wasn't for all the injuries. Selemon barega and nijel amos also seems to have peaked at age 18 tho im unsure if thats their true agee
Yeah, I agree Laros is the safer pick for the reasons stated, but Myers is coming on like a freight train. According to his World Athletics profile, Myers’ best 1500 last year was 3:46.30, so he’s already knocked off 10 seconds. I’ll be interested to follow both of their continued progressions.
Barega might’ve plateaued at age 18, but he won Olympic Gold at 21 (improving on silver at 19) and World Indoor Gold at 22 (improving his silver at 18). His bigger issue seems to be timing his peak/tactics, which he also had issues with as a junior.
both are teen phenoms and prodigies so its impossible to predict.they may both go on to have great careers,or only one of them might,or perhaps in 5 years from now both will be burnt out,and gone.
Of course it’s impossible to predict, but saying that is no fun. Be bold! Pick one! I’m going with Myers.
