The problem is, you're not giving enough volume. If he's only going to do a mile - 2 miles of volume, he might as well race. He needs 2-3x volume of race distance to consider it a ball buster/priming because he is so aerobically fit (which is why you do the aerobic work, to handle MORE fast pace stuff and still adapt to it)

That's why he needs to ride that fine line.
Not too much volume where injury could happen, but fast enough where he tests the waters of WR pace.

Jakob obliterated Komen's 2-mile record. He's currently the only active runner that is even in contention for challenging El G's records. He's more than likely already in shape to break both the 3000 and 5000 records.
He's working within a well-established system that's brought him there, and has immense training intelligence.
He should do what he and his team deems necessary. Not listening to armchair experts.
