I’m curious about how many weeks/months it would take in order for Jakob to be beaten by an average high school cross country runner. I will say that average is between 17:00 and 17:30. For this example Jakob can do some light walking but no running/ jogging or biking. My guess is ten months.
it's obvious some of you have never come into contact with any real talent, or seen just how easy it is for them coming off a long lay off.
jakob is very special. as long as he keeps the low body weight, those 17:30 cats aren't beating him. i don't know if 15 years is the right answer. but the measurement is definitely in multiple years.

I don't know. I bet after a year of zero running he might struggle to break 18. Most of the low training people I know were still doing a decent amount of running in things like soccer or basketball. Granted like 6 weeks later, I would expect him to drop like a 14:30. I just expect those first days back to be rough.
I am not neatly as talented. My PR is 2 minutes slower than his but I was able to run 16:45 after 3 years ofno running. I assume he would run 15:00 after 3 years of no running.

I have a friend who ran a 19:XX turkey trot after a year of almost total inactivity. This was a former college soccer player (so a decent base of aerobic training) who hadn't done anything more strenous than rec league softball and some hiking since his senior season ended.
Jakob's natural talent blows my friend out of the water, he has an even larger base of serious aerobic training, and he has the psychological fortitude to push through difficult efforts. There is no chance in hell 12 months is long enough to make him 18:00.
Look at how someone like Nick Symmonds is still comfortably better than most hobby joggers at 200lbs and super low mileage. Elites are a long way from regular people, and Jakob is the elite of the elite.
Unless he gets fat there's no way an average high schooler would beat him, even if he took 20 years off. A better question would be how much weight he would need to gain to be beaten by the average high schooler.
