I'd love to hear the backstory. How'd they know it was fake? A fake with your pic or using someone else's ID? How old are you actually?

Bars often keep fakes in a box as you stated. If they’re good they’ll be used for training and if they’re bad they’ll be shredded. Especially since you bought nothing you’ll be fine but we’re licky

Your fake ID has your real name on it? Why would you do that?

i've never heard of bars pressing charges for fake IDs in the absence of other bad behavior, just leave the bar and don't come back til you're 21. you'll be fine.

This is the key. If you just leave and don’t make a scene / resist (other than a brief denial or asking for it back), they almost never press charges. As a poster above said, it’s embarrassing and they may keep it in a “wall of shame”, but you’re likely fine

If it was fake, how will they know who you are? If you were dumb enough to make one with your real name on it then you’re an idiot and deserve to get in trouble.

No chance. But the consequences aren't terrible if it did happen.

It will cost you a bunch of money and you will probably not be able to ever get a security clearance. Not a huge deal. But I am sure you knew that.

OP, we need more information. Did you alter your real ID? If so, that was not a smart thing to do. Did you have one made with your real name? Also not smart. Was it someone else's entirely? Not a problem. Not sure what you're worried about here.

Likely, the bartender or bouncer will just give it to his younger brother to use as a fake ID.

Skeptical bouncers/bartenders/merchants sometimes ask to see another form of identification. They’ll often accept just a credit card with a name or a student ID without a birthdate. It’s a little riskier in some ways, but so is having a fake name (friend happens to pass by and call out real name, you pay with a credit card with a different name, etc).

Had a friend who was a bartender and they did something similar. Manager would make a collage from all fake IDs.

But to the OP, the “best” scenario here is to get it back, and then the second best is to just not make a scene and not resist. They won’t turn it over to the police - at least in my state - except if you’re a complete d!ck about it
