What is the story with Gjert?

The initial announcement referenced undisclosed health issues as being the reason Gjert was no longer coaching the boys. It was nearly immediately clear that it wasn’t true (same statement referenced Ingrid quitting running, which plainly would have nothing to do with Gjert’s health), and there have been enough opaque comments since then that has made it pretty clear that the father-coach dynamic was harmful to the family moving forward. So Gjert’s still coaching the 3:32 dude (and appears in the recent interview to be quite healthy), and he’s been coaching him since he was 15. But Jakob, Henrik, and Filip are no longer being coached by him. I haven’t seen anything that even suggests that they are on speaking terms.

FWIW: Anyone who has watched Team Ingebrigtsen can tell you that he is beyond overbearing and obnoxious. He demands the spotlight and the credit—see the statements by Ghert that Marius Bakken has provided email exchanges regarding proving that Gjert lied, etc. There were also nasty rumors about specific events that precipitated the split but I honestly don’t put much weight in them and won’t repeat them here. It seems like Gjert got to be too much for his sons in the wake of Jakob’s gold and Team Ingebrigtsen is no more as a result.

So now Gjert is now focusing on Nordas and his focus is for him to beat Jakob?

At 3:32.3, Nordas is currently the 4th fastest 1500m runner from that town.

Severe stress can be and lead to illness so I don't think whatever was said is untrue really.

Their focus is to make Narve the best 1500 meter runner he can possibly be. I think neither of them believe he can ever beat Jakob.

Nordas is currently ranked #4 in the world. 0.4s away from 2nd. Why would he think that he can never beat Jakob?

In order to reach his genetic potential, now that he's run 3:32, he should mentally believe that he can beat anyone. That would give him the best chance.

Sorry, «ever» was the wrong word. It will take something special, is probably more accurate. Like Jakob hitting the wall in a WR attempt for example. Narve has a great kick, but I doubt he will ever run 3,29.

IMO he stopped training Jakob because it was too stressful. Jakob is his prodigy son and I think he got too emotionally involved in Jakob's life.

Training a stranger is probably easier, he's more detached, and can enjoy just being a coach.

I would guess that Gjert began to worry about the continuous doping of his son and possible consequences. It is easier to dope an acquaintance than a family member.

Because Jakob just ran 7:54? He will probably sniff the 1,500 WR this year or next. Not really unrealistic to think he won’t beat him. Unless you think Narve has WR potential
