I ran a 2:06 800m to end off my junior track season, and I am wondering if it's possible for me to break 2 next year, and if so, how about 1:56? For reference, these are my other times:
5k XC - 20:37
1600m - 5:07
400m - 54-55 (I've run 56 at the end of a medium/hard workout, so I'm assuming I could go slightly faster)
Even if it's not possible, what do you guys think is an achievable goal? I'm struggling deciding how to train because I'm not really sure if I am an aerobic 800m runner, or a speed-based one. My coach thinks I'm more aerobic, but I think that's mainly because the guys I train with all run the 400m, and so I'm basically the only xc guy in the mid-distance squad. I personally think I might be slightly more speed-based (and yes I know both my distance and short distance times are mediocre) because my times seem to get better as the distance gets shorter, and I'd say I peak at the 800m. I've only ever run around 25-30 miles per week at my absolute peak, and this summer I was planning to try to get up to 40. I understand that mileage isn't everything with the 800m, but I can't see myself going sub 2 with only a 20 minute 5k, maybe I'm wrong on that one though.
