Nah. It's an okay conversion if you are not already a steeplechase specialist, but world class steeplechasers run times well better than their 2 mile fitness. That's why there are plenty of sub-8 performances in the 3k steeple.
He can likely break 8:00, though.

There is no such thing as a "standard" conversion for anything. All conversions are pulled out of someone's fetid imagination.

I'm not implying one indicates the ability to do the other. Just like it's elite to freestyle swim 200m sub-1:45 and elite to run 800m sub-1:45, no one does both.
