Can Faith K get the 3k outdoor world record?

Are you serious dawg? 2:30/1k isn’t particularly close to 3:50/1500. You think Masterkova’s 2:28.98 is as impressive as a 3:48? You think Laura Muir’s 2:30.82 is worth 3:51.x, Ciara Mageean’s and Jemma Reekie’s 2:31.lows are worth ~3:52, etc?

The only reason no women were top-25 at both 1k and 5k as of a few days ago is that the 1k is a seldom contested event. It’s pretty obvious that Gudaf Tsegay, Genzebe Dibaba and Sifan Hassan could all run 2:28-2:30 at their bests for top-10 on the current all time list.

Kipyegon just split 2:31.3 for the final 1k of her 1500 WR. I hope that satisfies your question of whether she could still run sub-2:30.

OP, I’m totally with you: 8:06.11 is incredibly tough. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s the most untouchable record in all of men’s and women’s running events, but I always thought it was more out there than the women’s 1500 or 5k. In fact, the World Athletics points tables have it equal to 3:49.24 and 13:54.50.

If she set up an attempt in the shape she’s in currently, Kipyegon would be close—somewhere in the 8:06-8:08 range I think. Chances are she would miss it, at least on her first try.

Isn't L Muir a superior 800m athlete? It makes sense L Muir has a 1000m p.b. close to Faith Kipyegon's. By the gist of your post, minimizing the achievement of sub-2:30 1000m, by default I assume you believe Faith Kipyegon, today is capable of sub-2:30 1000m. Please note: just because some events are rarely completed doesn't make the records weak. A few days ago, I was of the belief 7:58.61 2 miles was superior w.r. to 72.81. I need to respect, 72.81 600m. Lastly, Sventlana Masterkova was a great athlete, 1:55.87, 800m & 2:28.98 1000m.

You are the first person to imply 1000m w.r. is weak.

I can almost guarantee that Wang Junxia was both doped to the Max AND set her record on a short track. The fact that the track was ripped up after these records were all set down at one time over a week is very telling.
watch old videos of Wang running, - she looks terrible. Choppy stride low awkward arm carriage. No amount of doping could raise her above athletes like Kipyegon in the 1500m and Letesenbet Gidey in the 10000m.

8.06 is a staggering time for a female athlete to run. Consider this also. The Chinese were on a mission to “prove” themselves superior to western athletes, so a special government backed project was created and financed to achieve this at all costs. In simple terms the track was short and the athletes doped with rocket fuel. No other scenario makes Wang running 8.06 possible.
