The production was pretty bad. Certainly not the resources that they've sent to some other meets. But it got the job done. The last minute switch to ESPNU at 10:15 ish PM central time. I don't get it.
I'll write this in English, so you probably won't understand, but ESPN has gotten rid of pretty much anyone with any political opinions on either side. And as a liberal, that is fine with me; I watch sports as an escape. Lousy coverage of a lower tier sport has nothing to do with being "woke". It is a matter of resources, and where to deploy them to get the highest return.
My god, RG3 has a list of questions to throw to Lara so she can give a word salad answer ("Lara, what does his mile time mean to him in this race?"). The two of them need to go.
The play by play guy was still incredibly boring. I turned it to a baseball game during commercial and the announcer got way more excited about a fly ball out than the ESPN guy did about national champions.
Plus ESPNs coverage has always been poor. And woke is supposed to be new things that scare dopey slaps. Although that’s not true either because most of the things they pretend are scary aren’t even new ideas.
First time I’ve heard someone accuse the LetsRun followers of being woke btw.
Imagine, you're watching the final of the March Madness tourney.. The game is tied 80-80 with :45 remaining, then the announcers mention casually to you that you need to switch stations to see the conclusion of the game. But in today's world where you pay $150 monthly for cable TV, you Don't have access to the other station without paying even more. That's what happened yesterday. Complete crap, and something we'd never see from ESPN if it were a Football or Basketball championship game.
This was my biggest issue with it. If you were recording, you got completely screwed. Why cut to a post game show when you only have a 3 min race left?

ESPNU will replay at noon eastern time today and no doubt will figure out how to fit in the 4x400
Seriously, cough up $10 and get ESPN+. You can then "cancel" and rejoin in time for the next event you want to see. Paid $20 total to see NCAA winter, the spring regionals and now the spring championship. And separate modules for high jump, pole vault, etc.
They "showed" Turner Washington of Arizona State winning the Shot Put when Jordan Geist of Arizona won it on his last throw. They did not show his winning throw.
I thought RG3 was great actually, by far the most interesting of the group. Doesn't know much about distance running, sure, but doesn't try to fake it. Just a fun guy with a lot of love for the sport. Would like to see him calling more meets.

Agreed. They should get the broadcasters who did Penn Relays for Flotrack. At least they sounded like they wanted to be there.
