if you want to run a fast time, what is the appropriate number of races to enter before going for the qualifier?
does it matter?
can only running 2 or 3 races before trying to qualify hurt you?

You will ussually run your fastest race after 6 attepmts. After 8 attempts, you will almost always get slower.
Nah. You never NEED to race. That is a personal decision.
Running, however is a need, a deep-seated compulsion that one must cultivate like a rare flower.
As Gonzo says "Just Run Baby".
lol That's true. I DO say that.
?
i'd say it depends on the distance and the mentality of the racer...
with proper training, in theory, if one could manage pace well enough, and was mentally tough enough, one could run a goal time on the goal day with no recent racing...
I, however, find, that at most distances 800-5k, having at least 2 recent races at that distance helps a lot mentally. Kind of a chance to relearn mistakes about pacing and the pain of finishing.

I agree.
If you are talking about races 5k and under, I would start racing about 6 weeks out running one race per week. If you are running longer races, I would start racing 8 weeks out running 6 races, but run shorter races building up to the longer race.
Are you training to race or training to train? What you do in practice is what you will do in the race...throwing in some races definately helps.
