I really thought Hicks would catch Robinson once they turned into the last 100m but he ran out of gas with 70m to go. What a well executed race by Ky though, and Charles looks so happy for him. Discus
Well even though it was hot and humid, the pace was slow, and for those who didn't wilt in the heat--notably Robinson, Hicks, and Clinger--it became a kicker's race, and the best kicker won. If the pace had been more challenging, then Hicks with the best combo of strength and speed would have taken it.
Hicks was one of several departing 4th/5th year athletes honored at Stanford's final home meet (PJ Invite), indicating this is it for him in a Stanford uniform on the track. Same for Meika B-R and Liam Anderson.
Regarding 2023 xc, don't know if Hicks will return although he does have eligibility.
The only member of the 2022 xc team who we know will not be returning is Meika.
Anderson may not return as well as Devin Hart who is rumored to be transferring to complete grad school somewhere else.
Regarding Robinson, he is in his 3rd year at Stanford (as is Cole Sprout), has never redshirted, so has one more season of xc, indoor and outdoor eligibility.
Have no inside info, but based upon the fact that Ky, Cole and Charlie are close friends and have stated they would all like to continue training together as pros, seems likely they will all return to Stanford this fall as a Big 3 attempting to lead the team to the xc team title which has been so elusive for Stanford over the past 20 years.
Of course, what could derail that scenario is Charlie & Ky going bonkers this summer -- as in making it to Budapest and running well there -- then being offered pro contracts too lucrative to pass by.
Yeah, but it's not like many were in it with a lap to go. Isai burned off all but 9 runners from a couple laps out. 28:10 in 85F with humidity is probably worth close to what these guys could do in a time trial.
Do we expect both Hicks and Robinson back at Stanford next year? will they go pro?

I would bet money they will come back for XC to try and win the team title that they didn't win this year. I know Hicks has an NIL deal so he might be alright holding out for another year and signing after winning a second consecutive NCAA XC title (if it were to happen) would certainly help with contract negotiations.

I'm hearing that Charles is coming back, though things could obviously change. Whether that's just for cross country or the full year, I don't know. He does have another year of outdoor eligibility, and I wouldn't read anything into the little ceremony at PJ.
Meika is gone. Liam is gone, though that means nothing for the team as he hasn't contributed. Hart is gone, which is a loss though he had a way of blowing up in the biggest meets.

They would be better off finishing their degrees at Stanford and then go pro. Pro running is not big $$ like the NBA, NHL, MLB, or football. Most pro runners make a pittance in comparison. Might as well get the education.
