Though, one might surmise that there were additional advantages employed as well.
More likely was racing time trial WR attempts emerging from a pandemic with no drug testing.
Look at the world 1500 lists the past few years, the world lead is basically the same as it was several years ago. Times in general get faster as the decades go by, we're not seeing any dramatic time in world lead times, similar progression as always. And I wouldn't say that those old 5,000/10,000 records were unbeatable, every record is beatable. Some dudes running 15-20 years ago aren't going to be the best distance runners of all time forever.
In the 1500 the 3rd best time in each year since 2011 are:
3:30.94, 3:29.77, 3:29.5, 3:28.81, 3:28.79, 3:31.19, 3:30.89, 3:30.01, 3:30.58 (2019, some say some pro athletes had them already that summer, and yet it was a relatively slow year)
SUPER SPIKE ERA: 3:29.47, 3:28.76, 3:29.90, and 3:32.10 halfway through 2023... So in the super spike era we've seen the same type of world leading times that we did from 2013-2016... If the spikes make you a few seconds faster, then we should see the 3rd fastest times in the world being 2:25-2:28 range, but we aren't seeing that. We're seeing pretty much exactly what we saw at the world level several years ago. BUT running in AMERICA has gotten a lot better, and younger guys are actually contenders to make world teams and placing top 8 in all events at the world level, that wasn't happening 15-30 years ago.
Three men broke 13 minutes in 2017. Fifteen broke it in 2021. Discussions are frustrating when people are ignorant about a the facts so they start with a false premise.

The 1500m was the most doped up event. Kiprop, Maflhouki, Lagat, etc. Kenyans have gotten ANNIHILATED by drug testing.
11 of the top 50 total 1500m times in world history are from the past 3 years. Out of the 39 remaining times, at least 30 of them are DIRTY.

You just cherry picked 2 years to make your point - if you chose 2012, it would have been 16 vs. 15 in 2021, for example - but I'll bite. Maybe because people are actually attempting to run fast now, not improve their tactics for a sit-and-kick final which was the norm during that time. Generally, in years where there's a lot of guys running fast times, it's because of 1 or 2 races where all the best runners meet and agree to run fast, which is what we saw last weekend.
Outside of Chep's WR's, the men's times aren't out of the ordinary. Outside of Chep's WR's, the top times haven't budged much in the last decade. According to super-spike logic, this means that runners at the top have gotten worse at the exact same time super spikes have come out, which I don't buy. Lots of women's records have went down in the last 3 years, but that's been the trend since before super spikes with Gidey, Hassan and Dibaba.
If you don't believe that the spikes make a difference, do some time trials in them and then do some in a 10 year old spike. I guarantee that you will run faster in the new ones. Every coach and every runner will agree.

I'm ignoring facts? I literally posted nothing but facts, I showed that to be the third best in the world in a given year hasn't really changed in the past decade over the transition from old spikes to 'super spikes'... Are you saying that they make you faster if you're not top 3 in the world, but if you're top 3 in the world you don't get faster? That doesn't make any sense.
They are working for US elites. Go compare top 100 averages for men and women for events 3000 - marathon and averages are significantly faster post super shoes. Top 100 average for indoor US men’s 5000m for 2021 & 22 is 15 seconds faster than it’s ever been.
They are also working for world elites. 2021-2023 are the fastest top 100 averages for men and women’s times ever. In past years we would see a fast year followed by an average year (up and down). This is no longer the case. 2021, 2022, and this year are all the fastest years we’ve seen when comparing top 100 averages in each distance event. This isn’t even counting all the world-records from the past 2 years. Women’s 1500m was just broken the other day.
Either way you look at it times have improved significantly. If shoes are not the cause, then what is? Why are all runners now using them. Watched that HS mile the other day and there wasn’t a single runner not wearing some brand of super shoe.
We are suddenly thrust into an era where if you are a US man and DON'T run under 13 in the 5k or 27:12 in the 10k you have no chance of making the Worlds team and you think the super spikes DON'T work on elites?
