As a competitive runner, I've always hated running. I've had moments of elation, but I loathe most of it. Does anybody else relate?

Doubt u hate the running. Its the other stuff around running u most likely hate. For example, race anxiety, anxiety prior to intense work outs, anxiety for the pain, strava pressure, pressure from people around you etc etc Running at its most simple n purest form without any pressures is nothing but pure bliss.
I think any sport, if a kid feels forced to compete, or gets staged managed by overzealous parents can be unpleasant.
Anytime you're doing something that's not totally your own idea, you have less agency, and you're more apt to dislike that activity.
Think of all the ex-military guys who hate running because they were forced to run in boot camp.

I know someone who was a 3 time first team All-American who hated running, and only was on her D1 track team because she was getting a full ride and wanted to graduate without any debt. After she graduated she never ran again.

I hate it at the moment but mostly keep it going to avoid morbid obesity.

Work isn’t fun, fun is no work at all.
There was a guy on my team in college that was a very good runner and put in a lot of work at it. He was a D1 XC All American once and qualified for NCAA outdoor Track Nationals. He was on an athletic scholarship, not sure if he got any academic money but he was pretty smart. Majored in accounting and then went on to law school. However, the minute his outdoor season was over his senior year he was done. As far as I know he never ran again.
I knew a nationally ranked US female runner who was very good at it but didn't like it. Consequently, she didn't have the fire when it counted and missed out on making a couple of Olympic teams.
Haven't been able to talk about this with my teammates. I've run a sub 14 but hate training - easy runs aren't easy at all and workouts me insanely tired. It helped me get into my college but I don't enjoy it

I liked/loved running as a high school/college runner but I hated coaching. I didn't dislike the coaches. It was just not knowing day to day what we were going to do that day until we all met for practice. It was like, oh no not that again.
Fast forward to when I was unattached and being my own coach. I love running again. Everyday upon awakening I knew what my workout for the day would be. And I didn't take it easy upon myself. Did the proper workouts on w/o days. Ran e-z on e-z days.
I trained to race by my own schedule, not someone else's and that made it more fun than h.s./college. Maybe someday you will find running/racing joyful again. Best of luck to you!
Yes, I wouldn't quite say hate but it's like doing the dishes or mowing my lawn. I just do it because it's part of my life there's no enjoyment there aside from a couple of key races a year if they've gone well. I ran a 78 min half this year which was a suprise and I'm mid 16s on a 5k, alright for a casual I guess
I used to play football (soccer to you lot) that was fun, but now I'm the wrong side of 30 with kids so getting up at 5 am everyday to self harm.... I mean exercise... Is all I have left
David Goggins says he runs because he hates it
From all evidence, Syd and Athing.
After watching Engel's Nike commercial ad nauseum, I'd say he hates and loathes running as it makes him "miserable".
If you hate it it's because you have burnt out and lost interest. If you get an injury where you have to take a lot of time off, you will gradually realise that it wasn't important after all.

if you’re going by the LRC version of what a “runner” is: 6,241 if you include suspected dopers. If you stick with those above suspicion, one hates and the other doesn’t.
I absolutely love it! I love it so much that i absolutely hate the fact that i can’t run further mileage and am limited :( . i am super prone to injuries so the only thing i hate about it is my fear of being injured and not able to run
I grew to dislike racing as the race scheduled dictated my schedule for the week. Once college was done and there was no compulsory race schedule (free to choose with club running) I was much happier.
I was kind of thinking about this on a particularly painful run today. I love to compete and feel strong competing. Without the goal of competition I struggle to train hard. Does that mean I don’t like running? training is so hard that it’s difficult to like it, but maybe that’s why I do it? I dunno.
