He's run sub 50 in the open 400 and 1:53 in the 800. Slow pace, certainly capable of it.
He also ran 9:10 same day before the 1600.
I've heard of sandbagging but that was ridiculous! That had to have been on purpose almost, you don't drift to the back of a splintered field like that and have any shot of winning the race unless you are purposely holding back in a huge way for 3 laps. Probably beat any 2nd lap in any 800M over the weekend as well!
Just watched it, pretty dang cool! Props to the camerawork for getting as much of it as they did.
