Shot put is the least plastic event in all of track and field.
Most people never picked a shot, they don't know how hard it is to throw it over 23 meters.
And then, they don't film it well.
This goes true for all track and field events, but shot put is the worst case.
They don't show the shot travelling to get there, just the throw and then where it landed.
In discus, hammer and javelin you can see it travelling a few seconds before it lands, and everyone knows it's a great mark even if they never watched it before.
It's also NOT because the WR "gets broken all the time" (which isn't even true for shot put): Duplantis broke it several times 1cm at a time, which is kinda annoying but people can see it is impressive every time.
You can't say the same about shot put.
