He ran 13:23 in his debut 5K to romp over the field just 2 days after running 28:19. Pretty easy wins two days apart with huge margins in Nairobi. He’s run 26:53 (2nd) and World XC (4th) on the season. I suspect he’s going to be a real factor along with Sabastian Sawe if both opt to run in Budapest.
I don’t think they can beat the Ugandans in a slow or fast race. Both have better kicks and better PB.

Kandie has a very good kick when he is patient (see last year at Kenyan Trials which he outcorked it). And Sawe has flashed really good finishing ability on the roads during his win streak. Cheptegei is the sharpest tactically on the track and definitely finishes very well. Kiplimo I think has an amazing engine but his tactics have cost him the last two 10K finals. Granted, at Comm Games last year he ran perfect races.
Impressive from Kandie, I'd put him as favourite to win Kenyan trials right now. Wondering about who will compete like if Sawe will be there or Kipkorir Kimeli trying to double at Worlds even if Kamworor might if not on the marathon team. Also if the likes of Benard Koech, Benson Kiplangat, Emmanuel Kiplagat, Richard Etir who have both 10/5 standards and are based in Japan will race. (Etir at uiversity)
I think Kandie also had to run a 5000 heat the day of the 10000m at KDF champs so impressive for sure.
