Perhaps it’s a masterpiece of humble self-reflection, as the only “irony” of the song is that nothing in it is actually ironic. Which begs a follow-up question: is the song a simple admission that she is of low intelligence? If so, it really is a masterful piece.

I've been ragging on the song for years, saying that it should be called "Bummer", since the examples in the song are mostly just misfortune vs irony (e.g. who doesn't plan for inclement weather on their wedding day? too bad that death row pardon got held up too long by bureaucracy). So I was highly amused when the jukebox musical Jagged Little Pill made fun of the source material even better than I could - Alanis has a great sense of humor about the tune.

The song made her a lot of money, she's dumbing all the way to da bank.

i remember this conversation when jagged little pill came out and then that silly video.
similar to when weird al released his parody video.
similar to when vh-1's pop-up video said the same thing.
similar to the conversation when we all realised Evian spelled backwards is Naive.
She created a song, and made so much money off of it that she'll never have to work again if she doesn't want to. If that's a sign of being stupid, I'd be glad to be a straight up moron.

Yes. It is about her being stupid. You, are also stupid.
