I usually bring one pair that I'm close to retiring and leave them wherever I am going. Not sure why, but thats what I do. I try to pack light and efficient and I can't imagine travelling with more than one pair of running shoes.
This is a really good idea. I always struggle fitting all my stuff for a week vacation in one carry on (I hate checking bags), so this practice would make things easier on the return. I have a trip this weekend and will give this a try. Thank you!
once did 2 with a trail shoe/road shoe when I had a good bit of time to do lots of hiking and some trails part of the time and, of course, roads/city paths the rest

I've always done the same thing. It's the perfect plan. I've done similar stuff with old t-shirts and things like that.
Yea, I do that with clothes too. My wife likes to dress well on vacation and I basically look like a bum, but I come home with an empty bag and for whatever reason I take more satisfaction in that than I do in looking like a respectable human. I guess I have to fight my dirtbag urges every day, and when I'm on vacation I just embrace my YOLO.

Im going to try this for this vacation. I'll be on a cruise ship so I guess I can just toss my shoes overboard when done /s
Before airlines started charging high bag fees I would bring about 20 used pairs from Luke's Locker to Mexico. Street vendors would trade me their crafts for the shoes. Now I only bring 3 pair of my own and leave two for the homeless wherever I go.

I do this as well, or I bring 1 pair of brand new shoes. I don’t like traveling with sweaty moderately used shoes.
I only bring one - unless I know there will be a lot of technical and/or muddy trails I want to run on. Easier to justify when you are doing some hiking too.
Best type of shoe for travel is one of those hybrid type things where you are comfortable at easy paces or for picking it up in a workout. Found the Aasics Novablast good for this but lots of other good options.
One. Usually try to focus on the vacation & spend some intentional time with the family. If I'm going to do some faster running I'll just wear the trainers and the splits are whatever they are. Usually would do something without a pace goal anyways.
I usually pack one decent pair that is good for a variety of paces/conditions, e.g. Endorphin Speeds, plus a cushioned trainer in a color that doesn't look ridiculous with my everyday vacation clothes for just walking around, though airports, etc. but can also be used as a backup pair for a run or two if needed. I don't usually wear my active running shoes for anything other than running, but make an exception for vacations.
