How much do regular college x-c and track coaches get paid a year? I am not talking about the Coach of Colorado or the millions that big football coaches get, I am just asking about a solid d-2, d-3 even d-1 team coach makes? How about full time assistants too?
Typical D-I head track and field coach is $50-75,000. Typical D-I assistant coach makes $25-40,000. At the historical national powers the money is much better. At the D-I bottom feeders the money is much worse. The numbers above are for the solid, but not national contendor D-I's.
BS-Typical 1-5 year experience is under $30,000 at the D2-D3 level. And 1-5 year experienced assistants don't make 40,000.
Unless cost of living is extremely high.
At most Mid Major DI schools the head t&f/xc coach is likely to see @$40,000-$45,000 per year, unless they have been at the school for many years. Assistant's at those school's are typically not making more than $25,000 per year....many assistants are making far less. There are schools (TX, Ark, FL, Stanford, etc) that pay more.
D-1 Head - NOT top 5 in the country but solid program (middle tier).
60 - 80K
D-1 Head - bottom tier.
40 - 60K
D-1 Assistant NOT top 5 in the country but solid program.
30 - 35K
D-2, D-3 Head
35 - 60K
D-2, D-3 Asst.
15 - 25K

Depends on where you are, what you've done, how much experience, etc.
I make 18K as a distance coach, no previous experience...also know a distance coach in the conference that makes 10K. Head coaches making anywhere from 30-60K that I know of in the conference.
This isn't the ACC or Pac-10, but we're not the Atlantic Sun either. So it all just depends.

Someone mentioned bottom feeder programs, I don't view my team or myself that way but I understand how some would in relationship to salary.Their are a lot of Head D-I xc/track coaches making between $30,000.00- $40,000.00 a year with plenty of experinece and who have demonstrated success throughout their tenure as a coach.If you find yourself coaching at one of the schools in the smaller D-I confereneces, you have hit a glass ceiling 99% of the time regarding salary .

BS? First, my numbers said D-I, not DII or III. Second, it's not BS because I am a DI coach so I think I have first hand knowledge.
Given I actually read newspapers and things of that nature, many times salaries are listed.
At the top tier Divison I programs the head coaches make 80-110K. There are some excpetions higher (LSU, Arkansas, etc.). The Big 10 coaches I know fall into the above category.
In the middle of Division I the coaches will make 45-65K
At the bottom of Divison I the head coaches will make 25-45K
Assistant coaches are all over the map. I know Division I assistants who make 20K, while I know others who make 40K. This is for the middle group.
A friend of mine went from being an assistant coach at a middle tier Division I program making about 40K to a head job at the Division III level, making 33K.
One of the top Division III colleges in the country asked me to interview for their head coach job. The pay was about 35K.
