What is wrong with the world? ''Journalists" are now capitalizing the words Black and White as if that's a person's name

You’re almost 3 years late to the conversation. The Associated Press made this change in its writing style guide in June of 2020:

But only black. Never seen "white" capitalized before, that must be more recent.

Also capitalized: Latino/Latina/European/Asian/Black.

Each of those is typically thought of as a race, like White (used in place of Caucasian, which is typically capitalized). Racial and ethnic group designations are often capitalized.

You didn't complain about the others.

I suppose one could capitalize any immutable characteristic that defines a group, so perhaps you should propose Blue-Eyed People. (but the nitpickers will note that you can change eye color, so I guess that's out)

Actually I think its a valid point and I think there is way to much emphasis on race. And I don't think its helpful, it adds to the divisiveness. If every time a white is unfair or violent to a black, race is emphasize, but it not emphasized when a black is unfair to a white, it will make white aggression to blacks seem more frequent and look more likely to be racist.

I also don't understand the emphasis on how you identify (black or white), as if you need to identify as one race or another. That's weird. Why should we want to make people put themselves in categories?

I saw the play Hamilton, where some blacks played white characters, and race and color was completely ignored throughout the play. It was a nice change.

The Washington Post is the only newspaper that does it; the WSJ and the NYT don't. Fox and CNN also do it

They weren't capitalized until 2020 since (correctly) nobody viewed the words 'black' or 'white' as proper adjectives.

I always wonder if the person writing this recognizes they just represent the type of person who impedes social progress just as much as the extremists on the ideological poles. It's always some normie white person (or POC who has learned to ingratiate themselves in order to gain acceptance) saying exactly. what. we. would. expect. "I am a reasonable person and all this race stuff is just too much [for people like me]. This isn't doing [people of color and their allies] any favors [with people like me who were never going to change their minds]"

Society moves forward by changing and forcing dolts like you to adapt or die, not by waiting for you to get it.
