this is happening on all college track coverage.
the commentators on the steeple were talking about how exciting the race got 2-6 was, but we can’t see it. We are watching a zoomed in frame of just the leader running in a vacuum.

I'm seeing this in many races and it really is making me angry. How can the camera person be so stupid to think that nobody wants to see the chase pack, or the whole field coming through? That's what makes it a race.
The other part is when the winner crosses the finish line, they only follow the winner. Many times the best part of the race is the people fighting tooth and nail for fifth place or to qualify for the next heat. But for some reason the stupid camera has to follow the winner while there is some amazing racing still going on. There is plenty of time to show the winner after the majority of placers finish.
Maybe they think it is like a football game and they have to follow the person with the ball. It is an example of people not knowing how to present a track meet.
I have seen announcers start to get excited by a big group of runners racing to get second place, but then they realize the camera followed the winner so nobody can see it, and their voice starts to tail off.
I’m excited that we have so much track available in TV compared to when I was running in the 90’s, but it’s time for these productions to take it to the next level.
Stop showing just the first guy breathing after they cross the line. Show everyone finishing.
also, commentators are doing a good job, but would like to hear more about what’s happening in the race, not so much about how “a 1500 is really a long sprint,” or nonsense like that.
