Splits of 55.34 and 56.94
If he can just hold that pace for another 700m in the trials he might snag 3rd place and a trip to Budapest #perspective

Not bad for a rust-buster.
But if he were headed to Budapest, he’d probably be under contract, rather than running for “Last Resort Track Club”.
why do posters like to pick on this guy so much? It's just a random guy and it's not like 1:52 is a bad time for 99.99% of the human population. Most people who put themselves out there as a runner know that their chance of making it pro are slim to none. Why do you have to make that reality worse by picking a random also-ran to bully? Is it because you had the same dream as him but never even tried? Or is it some other reason, genuinely curious.

I’m not picking on him per se just pointing out that 1.52 is the split for a 3.30 1500m. You U S and A folk have so many amazing athletes you could cheer on but this board is obsessed with a bang average 26 year old with decent club runner pb’s. Downvote me I don’t care you haven’t won a war since 1945!
So what wars are you winning?
I'd rather root for this guy than some other person who comes out of the woodwork like 3 times a year to run a time trial, give a wooden, stilted interview, then disappear again

Let your delusions go, or you’ll end up like “gorun”.
If he keeps it up he can win age group titles later on.

Nice splits.
American Olympic Gold Medalist Centro has been getting slammed on here for years. Same with Webb, Kipchoge, every elite from every country, in every event.
Go for a hobby jog and blow off some steam.

and I'd rather root for that other person who's putting in the work, instead of this one who comes out of the woodwork 3 times a year with a 'new approach' to training, giving it 'one last go' as if 60M/week cant be done alongside a job, and manages only a couple sensible weeks training before reverting back to literally anything he's told about by his amateur athlete friends, food-prep companies or new drink solutions
Nice race. I hope he did some LT2 work afterwards keeping his mmol below the proper level.

Agree. Good race & good splits. Nice to see him racing. He clipped a guy who just ran 1:49.9. Why hate on that? The 800 can go +/- a second or two from week to week. He competed with the guys around him & looks ready to string some races together. Should be able to go sub-4 off of this (or 1500 equivalent).

Don't just casually throw out there that he can do it, by what are you making that judgement? What from his post-collegiate career gives you the impression he's in the right place with a 1:52?
2023 - 1:52.29 / xxx / xxx
2022 - xxx / 3:43.81, 3:42.55, 3:45.19 / xxx
2021 - 1:49.76, 1:51.89, DNF / 3:44.93, 3:45.14 / 4:03.96
2020 - 1:51.82, DQ / xxx / 4:07.16, DNF, 4:01.76
The only time TAS has been in sub4 shape was Feb to Apr 2019, he ran his 3:59, 1:49.1, 1:49.2 and then 3:39, and the sub4 was on the infamous BU track. And no he didn't have any rust busters, he went straight into the season with a sub4 and 1:49
2018 - 1:51.1, 1:51.5, 1:51.7, 1:50.2 / 3:44.5, 3:52.7, 4:03.6, 3:53.6, 3:41.9, 4:05.5 / 4:02.6, 4:05.7, 4:05.2
So at the very least Spence needs to be in 1:49low shape to get a sniff, and he hasn't done that in 4 years. We're in May and we're talking about the king of burnouts here. Is he taking 3seconds off his 800 this season? and then taking multiple swings at the Mile?

Where is his consistency though , he wants to focus on the 800 so he needs to do real 800 workouts like 8x200 800 pace jog recovery , 500 6 min rest 300 800 pace 10 minutes rest repeat. Hardcore stuff like that. He just talks a lot and shows little
Fine opener. ~1:50 low next week if he doesn't let a slightly disappointing race get in his head.
He raced way more often in college. I don't think he gives enough credit to how fit racing actually gets him. He has a bad race or two, and then bags it for the season.
1x800m at 800m effort is actually a really solid workout.
I think there’s definitely a benefit to the weekly/bi-weekly racing schedule of college seasons. Keeps a runner sharp. That, plus teammates to train with. If only he’d join a halfway decent club with an coach. Or SOMETHING with structure. I fell off following the guy, but I wonder if it even occurred to him to do the kind of workouts/runs he did in college. Those things got him to the sub4 sub1:50 sub3:39 and even he has documentation of it from his old vlog days to reference. Does he really think he and his friends know more than his former college coach?
It's a fine time... but, for what exactly? He's not in college anymore and doesn't have a job - what exactly does running a 1:52.29 get him? Something to talk about on YouTube? Is that what we are talking about here?
So many threads on here now about non-elite runners and their YouTube channels. People on here are obsessed with YouTube for some reason. Is this a symptom of cell phone addiction - just people staring at their phones all day wanting to be entertained, scrolling social media and watching YouTube?
