Aside from academics, what does Oregon look for in order to recruit their distance runners? I saw their recruiting standards and one of my runners meets both 1600 and 3200. Does he need to reach out?
A lot of schools have reached out to him but he would like to see Oregon before he makes his final decision. I don't know if they reach out for official visits or the athlete has to reach out.

Standards are not set in stone. Lots of reason not to take a 8:50 kid.
UO has less than zero academic standards. Remember, this place let in ches, rupp, maton, pepiot, etc.. They want you to be old, fast and a good responder to the mandatory nike "supplements."

I would have to agree. A degree from U of O is Sh@t. The acceptance race is 95%. Not good.

Oregon is a fast sinking ship I’d look elsewhere. Jerry is not producing any results. Your kid will not be a priority and Jerry knows if he doesn’t work out he has a million other Duck wannabes based off the programs legacy. Rare to see such a sharp decline so quickly in an elite program something isn’t right over there.
Send over information to the assistants that includes your training volume, progression, where you ran the races. Not all track times are created equal. Did you win by 20 seconds? Was the time run at a super meet like Arcadia? What is the average of your top 3 times per event.
When I was in HS I didn’t have sea level times, but I had tape of me running sub 9:20 at altitude at 3 different meets. One in the snow. That got a lot more responses. CONTEXT

Very true! He won't be of much use if he's dumber than a box of rocks and can't stay eligible or make progress towards a degree.
They absolutely don't care about their recruits being smarter than a box of rocks. They prefer the dumb ones. Most of them never graduate. Jeez, rupp was there for six years and never came close to a degree even with a cupcake major at that clown college.
The HS kid should definitely reach out to be considered for recruiting. If he is turned down, and he's still interested he can visit the campus (on his own dime) and set up a meeting with one of the coaches. This has always been a big program with lots of athletes on the men's and women's teams, and lots of interest from HS kids. The new stadium facility likely increased that interest and helped with recruiting. Jerry is in his first year while continuing to be a pro coach, so time will tell if he is successful at the new job.

His unweighted GPA is a 3.8 so that's not an issue and his SAT score is higher than what's required so I doubt he'll have an issue there... I think P5-D1 meant something else. Character is key or getting along with his teammates are a few other things I can think of. I don't see any issues there so I will definitely tell him to reach out as many here suggested to do that.
He should reach out to any school where he has interest. Send an email and fill out the recruiting forms. The coaches will take it from there if they’re interested. There are quite a few coaches that don’t really initiate conversations except maybe for athletes on the transfer portal. So kids need to be proactive.
