why is it bad to wear the same shoe two days in a row?

I would run in the same shoe two days in a row. When I do have multiple pairs of shoes for the same purpose, it's usually an old pair and a new pair.

Sometimes when I get a pair of shoes that I don't end up liking, I cram as many miles in on them as quickly as possible just to get rid of them without losing $$.

This isn’t an answer to your question, but if you track your mileage on each shoe and only toss them when they are worn out, the shoe companies aren’t making money by getting you to rotate shoes. They’re just getting you to buy them a little sooner.

I think of it this way. If I average $150 per pair of shoes and put 300 miles on each pair, it costs me 50 cents a miles in shoe costs to run. Most serious runners probably spend less by purchasing old models or ones on sale and also get more mileage on a shoe, but you get the idea.

I rotate shoes because I like to have and use different shoes depending on what and where my run is. In the long run it doesn’t cost me more.

This is correct, it doesn't cost more money to have a shoe rotation if you're going to eventually use them all.

As for the consecutive days thing, supposedly running shoes take more than 24 hours to get their spring back and that's the justification for not using the same pair 2 days in a row. At least this is what salespeople in my local running store have told me. I ignore this and have never noticed a difference whether I run in the same pair 3 days in a row or wait 48 hours.
