what's going on here? Why are these marks "unofficial" while all other times in the race are marked as "official" marks? Are they verifying something or are the times not qualified? Anyone know what is going on here?
if that is the case, it is not fair because colin salhman's 8:33 mark is an official mark and he had someone pace him the first mile at 4:18 (then drop out). .
No rail on the track? That is usually the problem with teenagers. There was also no drug testing before, during, nor after, which will be an issue if you wanted times to become even more official, as in, recognized by WA, USATF, etc. At that point you're also going to run into the fact that these races were not held over any standard, internationally recognized distance. I'm not saying the event sucks or the times are a joke (although some of you may interpret these comments accordingly)....just giving a few of the reasons someone or other may not officially recognize the marks.
tracks that dont have rails are specifically made to be longer than tracks with rails so no that does not invalidate the times. but thanks for the feedback, your right it could be anything and maybe they are just taking their time to validate the marks.

This happens a lot on athletic.net, where many of the times from a meet are official but some are not. I noticed for the California times, most of the times for Arcadia showed up within a few hours, but the the fastest time by Para took about 24 hours, and I think a few others were missing. Again, I have seen the same thing many times for other meets, even within the same race. And I don't think it is just the fastest times, I believe I remember cases were middle pack times were still unofficial.
Back in 1979 & 1980, some T&F meets were on 440 yard tracks, cinder or composite asphalt and some T&F meets were on 400m tracks, composite asphalt or red rubber.
In 1979, for simplicity, we said we competed in Imperial units.
In 1980, for simplicity, we said we competed in meters.
Silly events like 1600m & 3200m were only supposed to be temporary.
What is silly is that we run the 1500 and 3000 on 400m tracks. A race that is 3 and 3/4 laps? Now that is silly, and it being an Olympic event doesn't prevent it from being silly on a 400m track. I would love to snap my fingers and have the world change to 500m tracks, but neither I or anyone else can do that. As long as we running on 400m tracks, races with even lap counts in steady increments is the least silly thing you can do. In the meantime, start a GoFundMe to pay for everyone to change their track size to 500m. Or at least do the big stadiums that hold the televised events like the Olympics, which might cause a slow change for other venues.
A bunch of knuckleheads really want the race to be invalid because Sahlman DNF. Sorry but he was in the race and the results are official because he was not a pacer.
That’s different. Colin’s race was not NFTF Sanctioned. If you sanction the race you must follow the rules. Colin’s race was an official race, like an open college race. Time still counts. When you host a HS only race and sanction it then you have to follow the rules for it to count. The Arcadia Race Director screwed this up.
The other thread on this is out of this world crazy with jealous haters. Anything to put down an NP athlete. Must be some real ***-hurt coaches out there that just can't let this stuff go.
What are you talking about? Of course Sahlman was a pacer. He said so himself.

It’s the opposite. Aaron Sahlman runs for Newbury Park and he was the pacer. He was the one helping. The Arcadia Race Director should have known better. It was Aaron Sahlman and Newbury Park that helped the race go fast.

if the race had not gone out fast, do you think that some other athlete would have won? Do you think that someone was deprived? Do you think there is a single athlete that raced that is unhappy with their times? Do you think that the runners in that race won't remember that race for the rest of their lives? In what way was this not track and field at its finest?Remember this was not the state championship, it was a chance for people to perform. Everyone looked pretty stoked at the end of that race. Personally, I was jealous.
