Well does it take into account running up hills etc?
I'm sure this is a really stupid question so pls feel free to be abusive as long as you also give me an answer.
ie if running up a long steep hill, will it accurately (or as accurate as it is normally) get the actual distance or just from a hawkeye point of view?

It's not accurate enough in the first place for hills to make much difference. If you went on a 10k run and were on 5% grades the entire run (which are serious hills), you would only add 12 meters to your total distance, or 0.12%. If you're careful, your Sue and Paul measurement will be off by about 0.5%, even with no hills, so the effect of hills isn't very significant.

By my calculations, the difference in distance is approximately 31m, or 0.3%.
